In the state of Rajasthan, India, there exists a place which is one of the remotest in the country – Domkundwar – a village with a population of about 2,000. Located at an altitude of 835 meters above sea level, Domkundwar is a small town surrounded by farmland and hills where people have been living for centuries. It is hard to reach from any direction as it does not have an airport. It can be reached from three different roads: via Bagru-Teliya-Siwana-Jaitpur state highway; via Bhilwara-Bhilwara Line Railway line or via Pali city. Although pronunciation is 'Domku' (as known to people who speak the local language), the origin of its name remains unknown. Some claim it was named by original settlers as 'Dom Kokar', which means "Lord of prey" in Sanskrit, because of the large population of wild animals there. The official name for this village is 'Domkundwar' (दोम कुंद्यावा) . 'Kundwar' means deposit or storage. It was also claimed that the village was originally called Gokar by the Rajputs, after a famous warrior king Gokarni. The village is located in Siwana Tehsil, in Pali District in the state of Rajasthan, India. The Village has a population of 2,908 according to the Census 2011. The closest city is Pali (35 km), and the closest airport is Jodhpur (205 km). Domkundwar's nearest town would be Palahi which is 19 kilometers away from the village itself. However this town does not have any railway line and moreover there would be only one to and fro train every day at 8:05 am and this train takes more than 2 hours to reach Domkundwar if it does not get delayed. It takes 2.5 hours to reach this remote village by road. The nearest town of Palahi is Siwana which is away from the village itself. It takes only 45 minutes to reach this small town with a population of 28 thousand by road. The climate in the district of Rajasthan is classified as semi-arid, with most rainfall occurring during summer monsoon (July–September). The average maximum temperature in the district in summer is about . Autumn comes after the monsoon, and average maximum temperature in autumn is about . Winter starts after mid-December when temperatures fall below . Rainfall occurs during winter, but it can be heavy at times when there are spells of thundershowers. There is a lack of good soil that can be used for farming and it also does not possess any mineral resources like coal or oil or natural gas. The majority of the population depends on agriculture for their livelihood. The farmers either grow cereals or crops such as cotton, garlic, ginger and onion.
